It was also probably the best answer to xerneas in ubers, and we all know how valuable that is. It could easily boost thanks to having such amazing bulk, and had the potential to become ultra necrozma, which was one of the most unstoppable offensive threats in ubers, although most dusk mane sets just stuck to leftovers or helmet, since the defensive utility of necrozma was so valuable.
Incredibly bulk that was complimented by an amazing ability, a wide utility movepool including rocks, knock off, roar, and thunder wave, and best of all, wasn’t passive due to having an enormous attack stat. Dusk mane was the first true steel type of ubers. Solgaleo existed, but it just didn’t have the best stats or ability, and it definitely wasn’t functional as a defensive mon, which is what steel types are most valuable for. Arceus was fine, but running it meant that you weren’t using a better arceus form, so it wasn’t very common. Dialga was amazing in dpp, but the inability to resist dragon, and especially fairy come gen 6 with xerneas meant that it didn’t really fulfill the needs of a steel type. Previously, the only steels with box art stats were dialga, solgaleo, and arceus-steel.
